May we ask whether you’re a lady or a gentleman?
• A lady
• A gentleman
• My dear sir, there are individuals roaming the streets of Fallen London at this very moment with the faces of squid! Squid! Do you ask them their gender? And yet you waste our time asking me trifling and impertinent questions about mine? It is my own business, sir, and I bid you good day.
Then Sunless Sea gets rid of this question altogether by letting you independently select a portrait and how people address you, which can range form “Sir”, “Madam”, “Citizen” to stuff like “Uhm, err… Uh… Well…”
“Captain”, because the only thing in my pants is the under sea.
Edit: and some devils.

I wish I could get into Fallen London and Sunless Sea, but while the writing and atmosphere are sublime, the gameplay never hooked me in the latter and the energy system annoyed me in the former.
I feel the same way about Fallen London. Never played Sunless Seas, but I did enjoy Sunless Skies. As I understand the gameplay is basically the same, but maybe some of the systems got refined from game 1 to game 2 so if you haven’t given it a look it might interest you.
Trains of the skies allow you to strafe and it makes so much difference. It’s not called Zee though, that’s a downside
They still reference the Zee all over, so it very much is more content for people looking for extra Fallen London goodness!
Know nothing about this game yet am slightly disappointed there’s not an option to play as a squid face
