I had a moment looking at myself in the mirror, and realized I don’t like the person I see. I’ve been trying to change this. Therapy, changing my diet to be more healthy, etc. I’ve taken 10mg of Lexapro for about six months and it didn’t really seem to help, it just sorta put me into a weird headspace. So my Dr bumped the Lexapro down to 5mg, and added 75mg of Wellbutrin to the mix.

I’ve been taking it for 4 days. I’m tolerating the Wellbutrin fine, but my appetite is fucking gone. I’m no longer really craving the stuff I used to, sweets n salts, but my appetite in general is just fucking gone. I’ve eaten once a day for the last 4 days. I’m downing water, and unsweetened tea like it’s the cure for cancer all of a sudden. I have always drank a good amount of water, during summer I knock out at least two gallons every day.

Today I drank 3.5 gallons of water, tea, Gatorade and pedialyte. And I’m still fucking thirsty. Yesterday I had almost the same amount, killed 3 gallons and maybe a quart more. Im not dehydrated, im urinating and it’s clear, but I just can’t drink enough. If I shake my stomach, I can hear the water sloshing.

What the fuck? Is this normal? Should I be concerned for something else? I’m not prediabetic, no cancer anymore, I’ve just had a shit ton of bloodwork done three weeks ago so I’m fairly sure it’s not some undiagnosed condition. Anyone else take Wellbutrin, and have this happen?

Side effect, haven’t had an edible in two days, so I may end up coming out of this completely sober too, which was unexpected but completely fine.

That all sounds concerning. I’ve been on mental health meds for almost 10 years and I’ve heard and seen the exact opposite from people, increased appetite and normal water consumption. Don’t drink too much water because it can end up hurting or killing you, so please be careful and get this checked out!

Yeah, I’ve had more than a few thoughts about water intoxication, so I’m trying to temper it a bit but good grief dude, it rivals the urges I got when I was using hard stuff.

I’ll have to schedule a dr appt on Monday, my doctor is so busy that I have to get on the cancellation list to get in before the heat death of the universe. Maybe I need to ramp it up more slowly or something.

Wellbutrin is a stimulant, so it’s not unusual to have an appetite reduction. Craving liquids like that sounds like a side effect to me. Message/call your doc and let them know, but if it’s not unbearable you could wait a few days and it might go away. Your appetite might come back too after you take it for a while.

There could also be some interaction between Lexapro and Wellbutrin, but tbh you’re on pretty low doses of both. Be sure to tell your doctor even if it goes away.

My Dr uses MyChart,so I sent a message. Hopefully I get a response of some sort soon enough.

It really isn’t unbearable, I just kinda wanted to see if someone would just be like ‘ah yeah that’s Wellbutrin thirst go get a big glass of water you’ll get used to it’ or something like that.

I take it (for 5+ years now) and drink a lot of water, but I’ve been drinking a lot of water for decades at this point so idk. I doubt it’s anything that’s gonna harm you beyond the discomfort of being thirsty all the time.

I recently started Bupropion too and it absolutely destroyed my appetite and made me very thirsty for a while. It evened out after a few weeks though and now I’m eating more normally, maybe a little bit less.

Ive been on wellbutrin for a month at 300mg and I dunno if it did anything. I was so angry tho on the second week, I cursed out a coworker it felt uncontrollable that day. I dont think Ive ever cursed out someone that I didnt think really deserved it, and the guy didnt deserve it at all. I fucked up.

After reading your post in all honesty, maybe you’re just experiencing another form of anxiety caused by the change in meds
