A friend of mine will sometimes be in discord while he works IT and some of the calls really boggle the mind. At first I thought it was just old people but he it’s people younger than us and they can’t follow the instructions or tell you shit that is on their screen.
At my last job, the lack of basic computer literacy was prevalent across people of all ages, especially younger people. I’ve noticed people who mainly use mobile devices really struggle with very basic tasks on a desktop, like how to drag windows across the screen or which connector fits into which slot on a dock. I worked with people who struggled with understanding shapes and how to ship back a box with their old laptop. I think a lot of people freak out over small issues with computers that they would be able to resolve themselves if they weren’t so intimidated simply because it is an electronic device. My old workplace pampered its users so much that it fostered users who used the criminally understaffed IT department as a crutch.
Something for me is due to anxiety and other shit I am not one to ask for help until that’s the final option. That’s kinda made me a better troubleshooter think.
