Start at 3:25 in this track, and listen to the flute riff. This is the track that plays during the build up to the battle of Ferrix, when they’re holding the funeral and have the marching band.
Then listen to this track from Battle of Algiers, a movie depicting the communist rebellion against the French in the Algerian War.
This strikes me as extremely intentional.
yeah, I’d have to agree. at first I was like “ehh” but once the wind instruments get going it’s pretty clear.
interestingly, Battle of Algiers popped up on HBO Max (and into my consciousness) just a few years ago as part of a curated collection from Steven Soderbergh as one of his favorite movies of all time.
I haven’t seen Battle of Algiers, a random comment suggested the similarity and I had to go find stuff to confirm. I have to watch it and find the scenes this track is from but I suspect there are probably more direct references in the filmmaking too.
Oh shit, this is very very similar. That’s fucking cool.
Edit: Hot tip, open both links and try to play them as close to simultaneously as you can, it sounds dope.
Edit2: Yeah, playing these over top each other makes it obvious Andor is drawing heavly from this song.
Oh shit, this is very very similar. That’s fucking cool.
I thought so too. It’s made me put the movie on my to-watch list lol
