The problem with “body type” is that it is actually a gender selector too, but they don’t tell you that. If you’re body type 1 NPCs refer to you as she/her, and if you’re body type 2 NPCs refer to you as he/him. They needed to add a separate pronoun option, but didn’t, so right now the body type option is just the gender option but pretending not to be.
Exactly. It feels performative, because they didn’t take it far enough. Cyberpunk 2077 handled it very well, where you can separately choose whether or not your character has breasts, which genitalia they have, voice type, pronouns, etc… Since every single individual part is independently editable, there’s very little room for misgendering.
Cyberpunk actually ties your pronouns to your voice selection. You can’t have the feminine voice and be called he/him. There might be a mod for that, though.
They likely only have a dialogue script for masculine and feminine, which swaps both player and npc dialogue. They’d need four scripts and cutscenes timings to make both player voices work with both NPC pronoun uses.
In theory, if designed in advance, this shouldn’t be too bad right? Make the lines separate audio files, and when one ends (or is x% finished), trigger the next. Would probably suck to implement now the full game is out already, though. And for relatively little benefit (saying this as a trans/NB person) so I get why they didn’t add it after (or near) release. I do hope the next game does this better, though.
There was a mod posted on Nexus, which has been so controversial apparently, that the mods had to remove the comments section on it, and post a screenshot of why it was taken down at first.
Like, I just DON’T get it man. Who. The. Fuck. Cares. if there are type 1 and type 2 instead of male and female? I created my character, the exact way I wanted (minus scars, but oh well) and am already moving onto Dark Brotherhood quests. Having a blast, actually!
I just don’t get the OBSESSION with people’s genitalia. At all. Pisses me off. Sorry.
You should see the Steam discussion pages - I went there today due to a quest bug to see if there was anyone else with the problem or answer to it and the whole thread has been nerfed by idiots posting crap like " This is why Trump won". I never would have even noticed or cared about the stupid option otherwise.
It’s just extra customization options in the character creation screen. If you don’t want to use it, don’t use it. For some, these extra options are great additions. Why go great lengths to deny their enjoyment?
If it was literally a list of body types I’d get it… but the way it’s implemented makes “male” and “female” feel like “nono words” they’re not allowed to say. Which is a bit silly
As long they don’t add pronouns. God forbid grammar in my games.
Please think of the children
They made body type 1 & 2!!
OH THE HUMANITY!!
I NEED a mod to fix this thing that I literally only see for 5 seconds and then never again! I’m literally crying and shaking from the pain!

No need to be sorry. It pisses me off as well.
