eRac@lemmings.worldtoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•Haven't these MFS been saying they won in a landslide have a mandate since January? Or am I just imagining things?
4·20 days agoYou don’t understand! The public gave them a mandate, but Democrats stole enough seats to take control anyway! From the shadows!!!
I really like Mardi Gras Mustard. It has the balls to be mustard, not honey mustard.

1·1 month agoThe pixelization shader is cool. It compensates for camera rotation and warp to keep objects consistent when looking around. It’s like a pixelized 360 video.
Things still crawl when moving, but it significantly improves issues with distant objects flickering as you turn.

10·1 month agoThat’s what bids are for. It gives at least plausible deniability if shareholders want to question a large contract later.
You can manipulate a bidding process to force the outcome you want, but if you are too obvious about it shareholders can still have a case.

Another annoying one is that the address bar obfuscates the folder path if you start at Documents, Photos, etc. If I want to get to my user folder without a shortcut, it makes sense to hop to Documents and go up a level, but up a level from Documents is the useless Home directory.

6·1 month agoAccountants tally the numbers and hand you the totals. Twisting them is unethical and can lead to them losing their licenses.
Analysts manipulate the numbers to push a message. No ethics allowed.
Signed, an analyst raised by an accountant. Interacting with other analysts is infuriating.

I do that some times. He barely tolerates it. Today I was chomping his paws. He acted affronted, but he kept putting them back in range.

111·3 months agoDice are more random, too random for believable results. The nice thing with an LLM is that it knows the real-world probability of every answer to a question, or can make a realistic inference of what that probability will be.
It won’t give actual feedback about your thing, but it will give feedback that appears real.
Last night, while brushing our teeth, my wife made a comment about losing all her hair. That required a delay in going to bed until we had listened to I Earn My Life. Unfortunately, that leads into the obligatory Reaganomics dance party. Before we knew it it was 11PM and we were considering the philosophy of logo design.

Technology@programming.dev•Supreme Court erodes online privacy and free speech in age verification rulingEnglish
4·4 months agoIt’s starting to go that way. I work in event food service. For a long time, our university clients in the US didn’t want alcohol sales. Now, that’s starting to shift but we are required to use ID scanners. They do some verification that catches bad fakes and underage IDs, but they also store logs of every scan. Later, if there’s an incident, the university can ask us to dump the logs and we can tell from them when and where a specific person purchased alcohol anywhere on campus.
It isn’t storing a complete, usable image of the ID, however. Just the data encoded in the barcode.

The thing I love about both Fringe and Eureka is that they understand that TV science will always be bullshit and choose to lean hard into it.
