I wonder in which way it’s becoming harder? For me, it sure seems like it’s easier, faster, safer than it was 20 years ago.
As someone who grew up trying to get ahold of new software in the 80s and 90s, all I can say to piracy being ‘hard’ these days is “lol”.
If I had a piece of eight for every time some colonizer thought they had bested me hearties.

It’s easier and, most importantly, safer than ever now.
My forming years during the age of Napster, LimeWire, and Morpheus made me learn how to format a hard drive and reinstall an operating system expertly. I had hundreds of CDs with backups of (mostly) clean songs, videos, and crackz.
There was a 90:10 chance of getting a clean piece of media or electrogonorrhea, no matter how safe one was. However, it brought people together trading and downloading, akin to the Pokémon Go craze.
Ok, be me and my pals. Passing around a copy of a copy of a VHS tape.
As for getting hold of a film, no clue. We shared what we had. Each copy getting worse.
Occasionally meet someone who has new tape.
Then, thirty years later.
Read someone on the internet saying it’s getting harder.
Have an upvote for opinion that is unpopular.
It’s pretty much the same since the invention of BitTorrent in my experience. Actually maybe a bit better, at least with games, because there’s only like one DRM that is “undefeated,” and it’s not used nearly as much as some others back in the day that slowed piracy.

Nice try, Sony
Now that’s just not true. It’s easy as hell and you’re practically never going to get caught or get a dtd (digitally transmitted disease, of course) unless you do something exceptionally stupid
I don’t have the wait for someone to upload an album especially an obscure one to being able to download it. I just have to install a command line tool and provide the link to an album from the streaming service to pirate it.
How the hell do you expect people to make high quality content and other people to host it for free?
who said anything about quality
The availability of piracy is directly related with the ease of access legitimately. It’s getting worse, but it’s not that bad yet.
It sorta did - e.g. the early days of YouTube videos. However, stuff has to be hosted somewhere, and be discoverable somewhere, thus necessitating the style of pirating even if the goods are not themselves illegal. Regardless, companies do not want competitors so they will take steps to shut those down, and if they cannot cite a law justifying it, then they will make one up. This is always the dance, from the beginning of time, long before software or even humans existed.
