This reminds me of a game of Crusader Kings II I played where I was a count in Sardinia and I got the option to start a Islamic secret society so I decided to fuck around with it just for fun and the next thing I knew I got a message that the head of the Holy Roman Empire had joined my society and he promptly converted openly to Islam and I had suddenly put half the Christian world under Muslim rule while still remaining a count and also being unable to actually convert to Islam myself because I hadn’t bought the DLC.

The quoted tweet is legitimately something I heard at (Arab, Cristian) school as a kid. You guys have no clue how intensely some Arab Christians hate the two cousin religions. I could conservatively say at least 15% of us believe this at face value.

Some of it is probably astroturfed, but I think some of it is just that various arab uncles have given themselves some kind of mental illness through whatsapp conspiracy-videos, and all of their nieces and nephews are now bonding over the fact that their family members have gone somewhat insane. Like, my mother-in-law constantly talks about El-Sisi in Egypt being the son of a jewish mother, because that is the only way her brain can make sense of Egypt going from Nasser to El-Sisi.
