It was “discovered” that a lance of longinus was fake because they lit he guy who found it on fire and he died.
The siege of Antioch was such a wild clusterfuck. Take the city, get sieged back, go nuts from starvation and start doing random heresies trying to get good luck from god, guy claims he’s found the spear of longinus, army rallies just enough to break out and beat an army twice their size, papal legate goes, ‘it’s a faaaaake’ and spear guy gets burned
if they die they die can describe applied legal science for a long time
“If you don’t die you win the lawsuit” is an oft forgotten corrolary.
Also the existence of trial by sandwich https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corsned
one trial jared would have passed 🙏
i wonder if this is bread shittiness trial or spiking the sandwich trial type deal.
ah, remembered correctly the trial by water, completely foolproof method:
Ordeal by water was associated with the witch-hunts of the 16th and 17th centuries. A suspect would be subjected to “swimming” by being thrown into a body of water; if the accused sank, they were considered innocent, whereas if they floated, this indicated witchcraft.
It was a trial reserves for clergy, so probably a “How do we get away with it” type deal
and who is a better priest than a sandwich guy in amerika, i ask thee?
they had to have some legitimacy though, mighty unimpressive to watch a guy eat a sandwich and be fine, so i would think they would use spiked with hemlock extract or some other respiratory poison for the unbelievers (heretics)
Again, only clergy would be subject to this. You just need the idea that someone could potentially choke on this, you don’t actjally need anyone to do it. Remember this is like the 10th century, the majority of people have at most been to the nearest market town.
I’m pretty sure you’re thinking Game of Thrones.
