Love this solidarity. I hope that it shows folks can take principled action that, while it comes at a cost to them, isn’t as high risk as setting a cop car in fire.
It’s a statement that’s drawing all the
outGenuine question: why is Xbox on the priority list but everything else Microsoft does, including Azure, is a lower priority? Especially since Azure is the division most involved with what the boycott is about. Does anyone know why? It’s very puzzling to me.
They probably see targeting Xbox as more viable. It’s a brand people actually buy. People don’t really buy windows, it just comes with the PC. Most regular people don’t rent cloud servers.
And the list of priority targets on the website mentions Microsoft as a priority target. The infographic mentions Xbox.
Is it a brand people actually buy? Surely encouraging people to prioritize boycotting OneDrive or Teams or Excel would be casting a much wider net. Xbox is nothing to most people.
Nobody is using Teams or Excel by choice. That’s going to require a different strategic approach.
This is a thread about a company boycotting Microsoft, so it is at least possible. But again, what’s the point in only boycotting the easy stuff? It’s like going on strike on a Sunday when the shop would be closed anyway.
They are boycotting xbox. The game is available for windows.
Nobody’s saying to only boycott the stuff from the priority section of the info graphic. House House have certainly read beyond the info graphic.
Yeah that’s true, they’re not boycotting windows. Certainly a lot more people would have noticed if they did that, which is perhaps is the core problem here.
A lot fewer would have noticed because a playstation/switch exclusive indi game would go relatively unnoticed
I assume part of it is media attention. This game studio was asked why they were not releasing on Xbox, so they issued a statement. People are talking about it.
I assume its by ease to boycott.
Yeah is very easy to keep boycotting something you weren’t going to buy anyway. But surely that’s a less effective boycott?
Lucky they’re in Melbourne, because Chris Minns would be sending an armoured taskforce to their houses for this statement if they were in Sydney.
Surprisingly principled.
