And in bad country, refusing medical care still gets you billed for medical care

“Hi, can I wash your windshield? No? That will be $20.”
Damn, I like to tell people that Capitalism is all about withholding rather than providing goods and services, but I didn’t know I was this right

I think this illustrates perfectly why the whole problem with healthcare goes way beyond the insurance industry and boils down to the capitalist system that makes profit seeking such as this a moral imperative .
Like, this wasn’t the insurance company billing you. This is the work of a doctor or administrator.
I would refuse to pay and then bill them for $200 service fee
Resistance is futile

If we can’t shake down your non existent insurance coverage, please call to validate this racket fee so we can ruin your credit, sue you, and charge interest and fees in perpetuity.

I could explain what this actually means. I understand the actually billing situation this represents. knowing the situation does not improve the understanding of it though.
so explain
If it is the same billing system I am familiar with they are using that as a place holder for the service. So normally they would bill for the assessment as part of another service but because they intended service didn’t happen they had to make a placeholder code to use.
It is possible it is another thing and they are billing for the time and expensive of processing the refusal. The patient did get oxygen so they have to so a full work up and documentation for legal liability and medical reccords. Given that all the numbers are fake in medicine that is entirely possible to see it happen like that
