But this is a locally run model, it needs to be for the idea to work, the art piece of the “AI torture chamber” does as much ecological damage as having a normal computer turned on.
I generally find performance art to be confused and kind of pointless too so that all tracks.
Do whatever you want! None of this is my cup of tea. It has nothing to do with the AI being sentient or not. I think the less you can engage with it the better. No matter how antagonistic you’re being or whatever statement you are attempting to make.
The people doing this weird torture chamber stuff are definitely sentient and definitely capable of creating other forms of art that don’t involve anything but the human imagination. That also seems like a pretty important artistic statement to be making in the age of AI slop. But hey what do I know!
Again, I truly don’t care. I’m just never gonna waste a single second of my life engaging with the AI if I can avoid it. And the artistic, performative angle on this trend just kinda falls flat to me. Maybe I’m just not the intended audience! that’s fine, have fun! I’m still happy to see the real AI heads upset about this! Just not for me, I’d rather play video games if I have to engage with the demonic entity known as “computer”

It literally does though. If LLMs could feel pain that would make them sentient.
The fact that they obviously cannot and the fact that the premise of whether they can is inherently nonsensical is therefore extremely relevant to the question of ai sentience.
Setting up an art piece that by its very nature renders the concept ridiculous is therefore a relevant statement on LLM sentience.
You “shouldn’t use AI” is a fair statement, but this isn’t some plagiarism piece, the output isn’t even the relevant part. No one is seeing any actual piece of LLM generated art, the art is in the running of a model that is being prompt injected with an arbitrary number of “Owie” token, not what it puts out.
