The thing about “mob justice” is that people only want mob justice when it is abundantly clear that the normal system won’t give them any kind of justice at all. The whole metoo movement from the beginning exists and has traction because a critical mass of society have recognized the fundamental truth that American authorities don’t actually care about prosecuting sexual assault. If they did, then the desire to do something, anything at all wouldn’t be as strong.
