Everyone who talks about this stuff is completely clueless. The problem with SDI wasn’t one of technological limitations or materials science, but basic physics.

The power problem isn’t the only one, there’s also the issue of getting rid of excess heat, since space is not good for direct conduction it mostly needs to leave the satellite by radiation.
10 megawatts would require ~100 iss solar panel arrays. it would also take 100 tiangongs but the design would be smaller.
The West doesn’t have the capability to even maintain the ISS. What makes them think they can undertake and deploy a project hundreds of times that scale in a matter of months?

The bad news for the Idli-Maker Space Mirror Death Laser Program and the good news for 8 billion people who won’t get fried like ants beneath a psychopathic kid’s magnifying glass, is that we have an atmosphere that scatters light like crazy. We have Rayleigh scattering and the even stronger Mie scattering effects protecting us from the sun.
If you wanted to make a space death beam that penetrates the atmosphere, you can’t use visible light. You need a specific type of laser called a maser that shoots microwaves.
Also, no other country needs this capability. A country that “needs” the ability to do orbital strikes is a country that needs to be dusted. Especially if it has a government with an approval rating as high as Occupied Palestine does while pulling this shit.
