I had to check. Pete’s Place is still in business and hasn’t rebranded. While you’re in the area get a popcorn bucket full of spaghetti at the original By the Bucket. Where they sell spaghetti by the bucket. Magical place, Payson is.

There’s two Gila County fairs. Payson is still salty about not being the county seat 100 years later so they have their own fair you can’t enter anything in if you’ve already entered it in the Globe county fair. Globe got the county seat. Globe doesn’t give a shit if you entered your stuff in the Payson fair. They know they won their little fuckass nowhere pissing match. They’ll be riding that high until the mines close and it gets quietly returned to the San Carlos Apache.

If you’ve ever been through Globe, you’ll let them have that little victory. Nothing good ever came from Globe.

By The Bucket started as a spaghetti place in Payson targeting flatlanders going up to the high country looking for something cheap, easy, and inoffensive to bring up to the cabin. They expanded into the AZ high country as well as Phoenix, Tucson, and SLC, and have apparently since fragmented like a Nepalese Maoist tendency. I want to know the Mormon machinations that happened. Why is there a Tucson-Show Low splinter spaghetti-in-a-popcorn-bucket operation going by a different name? Did the SLC By The Bucket close, or has it gone underground like some kind of Mormon pasta-slinging Tupamaros? I need to know.
