Just because Argentina happens to be a couple of hundred miles away doesn’t mean they are entitled to the islands, not even if they throw the biggest toddler tantrum about it.

The islands were completely and totally uninhabited when discovered in 1690 and stayed uninhabited until France and England built colonies on the islands in 1765. The colonies were basically abandoned by all three of England (in 1774) and France/Spain (who took over France’s area) in 1811, leaving the island to be once again uninhabited until a German sailor decided to try building a fishing and cattle colony in 1823. Argentina declared independence from Spain in 1816 but was still fighting both a war with Spain and a civil war until 1825. The US didn’t like a private person owning fishing rights to an island, so we broke that shit up in 1831. The Argentinian government tried at that point to put a claim the island, but the people they put there mutinied in less than a month, and England came back to established themselves. The entirety of the Argentinian claim to the island is that they used to be a Spanish colony and that they inherited the island from Spain when they became independent, plus a 3 week stint before the people they put there said to hell with Argentina.
England was there 126 years before Argentina was a country, and they lived on the islands for roughly 9 years. Argentina spent a total of 3 weeks in control there. Nobody at any point in the history of the island wanted Argentina there. There wasn’t a native population to “imperialize.” When put to a democratic vote, 99.8% voted to stay with British rule, and the UN recognizes the right to self determination.
