My screen time was so low I would end my day with like 75% battery left on my phone. I got back into reading. I would spontaneously do productive things and solve problems left on my todo list for months when I felt bored…. And yeah its a night and day difference to now running out if battery before the day is over, flipping between YouTube, reddit and hexbear. Scrolling up and down with a burning desire to find something but not really know what that something is. I went to lie down at 9.30 and its 2 hours later and i have now deleted them again lol.

They really are just not good.

Been trying to get back into the habit of just bringing a book with me everywhere, which is what I did before smart phones. Even if it’s just slop about dragons and elves it feels a lot more productive than doom scrolling, at least helps work on my ability to pay attention to something for more than 10 minutes.

Other than reading my main passtime was listening to music or finding new music which I realised I havent done in years and was a big part of my emotional stability. Over the last 15 years i have curated a playlist 8 days long filled with different eras of taste and then from 2020 onwards theres nothing until i got back into it recently. Just sat in my garden getting steadily more sunburnt and found like 10 new bands i like.

I would monthly sink 6-8 hours straight into this activity it was like meditation for me

Yeah me and my friend share music just about everyday now so I’m always on the hunt for new stuff that I think they’ll also like. Kinda makes it a game to find something they’ll get enthusiastic over
