Hopefully it’s more like pleasantly talk to and not a fight but my anxiety is like no we’re fighting

So that cat i posted about, lil squidward, the one with kittens, well, after she and her kittens disappeared from our neighbor’s porch we noticed they’d moved to another neighbor’s porch. And they seem to be taking care of them, like, they have a little cat house thing on their porch. They might have been taking care of her the whole time (idk why her kittens were on the random other guy’s porch then but whatever) since I think someone gave her flea meds (or at least she doesn’t have fleas and i find that hard to believe for an untreated outdoor cat.

But if they’ve been taking care of her the whole time I wanna know why the fuck she was outside at all for a week straight of 100F 80% humidity weather? Why was she coming to me for ice water? She was just outside again, 96F outside, only this time she was panting, and I know that’s like, a sign of imminent heat stroke in cats. So i took her inside and put her in a bathroom with a cold AC vent and food and ice water and she’s fine now. But like ahhhh I just assume they’re gonna be like YEAH THAT’S OUR CAT and refuse to like, you know, actually take care of her

If she didn’t have kittens i’d just keep her inside and steal her

Edit: update: went over to talk now that my partner is off. The door was answered by the surliest shirtless man, who did not seem to want to open the door.

He said “they” were “getting rid of the cats” but that “they” weren’t here. He said he’d let them know we’d come back tomorrow.

My assumption from that is it’s a roommates situation and not his business? Idk i assumed it was a single family living in that house.

I’m also suddenly wondering if they’re renting (the house across from us is rented) and they might be getting harassed into getting rid of them?

Idk, either way, we’re going to go try again to talk to them tomorrow. I’m assuming if they’re getting rid of them they won’t mind us taking them, but idk. We’ll see. She’s got 3 beautiful little kittens catgirl-heart

LLM says I can and should call the cops. It says there’s no specific temperature threshold in my state’s laws but that if anybody denies pets vital sustenance that’s animal abuse and it says no water or even unweaned kittens outside at all in this heat constitute animal abuse and if they see the mother panting they could immediately seize her for life saving veterinary care

Im not gonna call the cops r/n but i hope all that’s true if they’re assholes about us wanting her or at least me insisting they put out ice water for her

    1. literally laid out me talking to the neighbors prior to anything

    2. can’t just take someone’s fucking cat’s, people, christ, then all it takes is them calling the fucking cops, having clear witnesses to us fucking around on their property and removing animals that they seem to be taking some bare ass steps to take care of, and then we’re the ones with legal liability for fucking trespassing and theft.

    3. it’s clearly expressed as an OH COOL, THE LLM SAID THEY’RE DOING ANIMAL ABUSE, SO if they’re assholes and either refuse to let us have the cats OR let them inside/give them ice water when it’s literally 100F and humid outside, then siccing animal control or the cops on them being an option is good.

And i’ll say that 10000 times, if when we speak to these people and they are like “yes those are our cats, no you can’t have them, and no we’re going to do nothing to take better care of them” then I think siccing the cops on them would be a good thing. If you disagree i’ll block you too and hope you’re left to swelter someday, for real.

Before that though all you people need to learn to fucking read
