I’ve learned (the hard way) that if any one person in an argument is upset enough to be in tears, then that argument is lost and should not be resumed. Take 20 minutes and try to come back more calmly and using a different approach.
That’s not what’s happening here.
My wife tears up whenever we argue regardless of whether she’s upset - it really bothered me early in our relationship, and whenever I saw that it was happening I’d immediately stop and try to comfort her, but she told me that it was an involuntary reaction on her part to any sort of disagreement and to just act like nothing was happening unless she appeared to be visibly in distress.
So now we just keep arguing no matter how hard she’s crying, lol - I immediately sent this comic to her when I saw it. We do like to make physical contact throughout though to keep in mind that we’re still in whatever it is together.
True. And, ideally, in a different, neutral setting that is not charged with the negative energy of the prior argument.
That seems toxic to me
