After three years of spending the whole day sitting and eating, I’m back at the gym since yesterday, and I plan on going 5 days a week for a while, lest I have a heart attack.

I’ve thought of doing a diary-like thread to give myself some sort of responsibility tied to exercising, and maybe getting someone else in the mood for joining me.

I’ll post a thread a week, and you can “check-in” with whether or not you did any exercise today.

Did you exercise today? Tell us about it and let’s get moving 💪😎🤳

    [Oct 26th]

Another very demanding day at work, plus it’s raining. Only stretching again for today.

I started the gym last tuesday, so technically I still have tomorrow to complete all five days per week.

    4/5 for the week

    [Oct 24th]

Very rough day at work, had zero energy left to do anything plus I arrived home late. Maybe I’ll do some stretching now and tomorrow I’ll make up for today with gym in the morning and a walk in the evening.

    Still 3/5 for the week.

I started doing crunches/sit ups every night before bed about 3 months ago to try to cut back on the bowling ball I’ve been smuggling in my shirt for the past 15 years which started with the heavy drinking I used to do. I haven’t drank in almost 8 years now, and while I can feel the difference in muscle tightness around my stomach now, it doesn’t seem to be having much effect on shrinking the bowling ball which is somewhat disappointing.

My partner and I typically go for at least a mile walk just about every day too so that helps a little I hope.

I still feel good about doing something rather than the nothing I’ve done most of the rest of my life.

I was thinking about seeing how much the gym down the road charges per month, but I’ve never been in a gym in my life, and I don’t know if it would just be a waste of money or not.

That’s great! IMO, doing it together is the way to go for any exercise.

I’m way more fond of other exercises, like walking, swimming, pilates… Personally, I see the gym as a sort of bitter medicine that I have to make taste better. I got some earbuds with noise cancellation, looked up the times with less flux of people etc. Making this thread is part of this too haha.

as much as I hate reddit, I do have to credit the /r/stopdrinking subreddit with REALLY helping me quit drinking… just saying things out loud and keeping track of how many days i’d gone without, and also reading stories of other folks who were struggling or had done it, truly did help me quit once and for all. There is definitely something to what you’re doing here… publicly announcing your intentions and holding yourself accountable. I think you’re doing a good thing!

    [Oct 22nd]

Fist leg day in 3 years. Wasn’t fun at all, but I survived.

I woke up late today and had to walk to the gym under a scorching sun, which didn’t make it any easier.

This is day 2 for me this week, 3 more to go 💪

Did a 20 minute run and then front and back flies and heavy squats. I was going to do lat pulldowns but a bunch of people were hogging the machine and I didn’t want to interrupt. This is my 2nd workout this week and I’ll go on Friday again! I’m on a good work out routine over the last 8 months and I want to keep it going!

I feel and look the best I have in years. You can do it too comrade!!
