The plan includes two separate recalls affecting more than 115,000 Tang plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and Yuan Pro electric vehicles.
Effective immediately, the first includes 44,535 Tang series models, produced between March 28, 2015, and July 28, 2017. BYD said the recall is due to component design issues, which can cause the drive motor controller to malfunction, and in extreme cases, fry the circuit board.

That depends on how many cars have been sold before, so the total numbers of recalls alone doesn’t say much. But it’s apparently devastating for both car buyers and people in general if cars pose a potential security risk, no matter which company built them.

Sure, this is why we should be concerned about quality control and technical defects in BYD’s rush to keep costs down due to a fierce price war in its home market. We must note that BYD itself has been warning of these price competitions for a long time.
