Piker stans have always been full liberal lol. like the people who watch him a lot and use him as their main guide to politics.

I do admit they are very recruitable though, in my experience. They are way more likely to attend an event you invite them to or read a book than basically anyone else.

They always have. Hasan is either a stepping stone to explore further left ideologies or a stopping point for most who are content with SocDems.

I’d rather have them stay there while working out the foreign policy brainworms or else you get NATO leftists who just waste time.

Weekly Hasan thread let’s go! (What’s the current speedrun to 100 comments? Although I don’t think this thread will burn hot enough to set a record.)

My take is that this post is not “full liberal”, but rather “full democratic socialist”.

    inb4 :same-picture:

This meme is hardly left-punching, I think that posting it in c/slop is punchier than the meme itself which I read as more of a riff. It is referencing something that I have brought up on this site too:

the online-left-of-DSA group (majority of hexbear) is often more focused on how the DSA’s activities are an electoral dead-end (mostly agree myself), rather than discussing how to leverage the current and upcoming DSA surge into something more productive.

I find these discussions to be a missed opportunity where people find it more important to demonstrate who has the correct analysis, than actually using that (probably more-correct) analysis to say something interesting or productive. There is instead an energy and tone of “the US working class was about to do a revolution until the DSA libs ruined everything!”, and the meme reads to me as a mild joke about that.

I do see how the format of the meme could come across as equivocation of communists and reactionaries, but I don’t think the OP is sincerely suggesting that. I would dunk on any commenters talking like that if i used reddit.

I don’t think anyone has yet figured out a reliable DemSoc -> Revolutionary transition strategy, so MLs are rightly withholding engagement and enthusiasm right now, as the DSA does not yet have escape velocity from the sheepdogging dynamic and certainly looks to be attempting a Pink Tide strategy, a strategy that has been shown to be invalid by many states in the last century.

Yeah I get that perspective, I don’t think there is a simple answer. I just notice a lot of talking down at people (such as “fell forget again award” which is basically calling someone an idiot, in my opinion).

I think the Gaza and Iran situations have really pierced the veil of US propaganda and DSA have a lot of momentum, partly as a result of that. I guess I wish the commentary from the left had more of a positive vision about specifically what needs to be done that the DSA are not doing. It always seems to start and end with “electoralism sucks”.

I am aware of some of the answers to this and have my own personal opinions on “what is to be done”, but I also get where the meme is coming from cause the negative criticisms are so much louder than the positive vision in online spaces.

Fell for it again is less about being an idiot and more about being ignorant. Nothing wrong with telling people they are ignorant. Most people don’t argue about the history, they are ignorant of the history.

The PSL has put forth a positive vision and there’s a book call Socialist Reconstruction that does that as well.

But what you’re asking for is very difficult when the POTUS is literally threatening to round up all the communists in a 3rd red scare and retelling of “first they came for…”

Honestly. The best we have right now, in the absence of a safe way to call for revolution, is to temper the enthusiasm of the SocDems/DemSocs so that they veer towards the revolutionary horizon without being led there

Nothing wrong with telling people they are ignorant.

Sure but I guess I would suggest being more tactful about it. I want people to understand the ML perspective, but it is my observation that this comes secondary to some of the more vocal posters, and discussion is easily terminated once the dunks and jabs come out. Comrade cowbee is the model I think we should strive for.

temper the enthusiasm of the SocDems/DemSocs

I have a different take, but I’m interested in breaking it down and getting to the bottom of it, which is that it isn’t a problem for there to be some excitement around electoralism if it truly is a dead-end anyway. I guess I’m thinking “the higher they rise, the higher they fall” [when an electoral focus shows limited/no success]. If we have confidence that the bourgeois system will do its work to halt anything good actually happening, then I guess it is my opinion that we should position ourselves as good comrades with significant disagreements, and be prepared to engage when the bottom falls out.

I would say that “ultras” is wielded by the hasan community at chirpers on twitter/Hasan’s chat who wield ML/anti-electoral criticism to get their digs in. This is definitely not always true, as there is a tendency for almost any insult to expand its scope over time.

Two ways to undermine it are to make concrete suggestions about how to organize (if not DSA, then what exactly should someone do in real life?), or for an ML movement to outscore DSA in political wins.

Negative commentary, even if correct, is unconvincing and sounds like ultra-leftism if neither a solution nor an existing result are presented.

Literally no fucking communist has ever said that(Ok maybe like some fucking Anti-Revisionist cult or something but not actual communists including actual Anti-Revisionists)
