Half of these excuses are just them saying war crimes are normal and expected for American soldiers and instead of confronting that they then throw up their hands and claim that means you can’t criticize them.
In typical lib fashion he’s trying to ‘um akshually’ war crimes, even though his exact points have been refuted.
That dude clearly didn’t read what you gave him. They specifically were ordered not to use mortars, that hurt some guys ego so they improvised their mortar “in order to avoid detection”. He explicitly spells it out. It was so shit that they were running for cover the first time it got fired and he doesn’t know if they ever hit an enemy mortar crew. Later they were allowed to use mortars again and did so happily bombing population dense areas.
Unfortunately I’ve met people like this who just say ANYTHING to get what they want, and then when the very standards they set get met, change their tune and shift the goalposts. First in that comment chain he said Platner was a machine gunner so wouldn’t have been involved with firing mortars, then he changes his tune and says troops have to follow orders, then he changes his tune and says well they weren’t intentionally targeting civilians, and then says well there are different chains of command.
He said in another post that people he’s met joined the military because they believed they’d be making the world a better place; Platner ESPECIALLY doesn’t meet that criteria as he said he joined to kill people. He said the institution is the problem and not the individuals who have to follow orders; except Platner was EXPLICITLY told to stop. He said people join after being brainwashed and don’t know what they’re going to be doing; except Platner did MULTIPLE tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.
These are the same people crying about MAGA cultists but in typical American fashion, both sides of the aisle are bootlickers for the military. I still recall a tweet by someone else who said he hates Platner’s politics (he was a chud) but admires his military career and his ingenuity (he meant the war crime involving finding a replacement for mortars).
