Peter Thiel is not an anomaly — he is the logical endpoint of a system that concentrates wealth and power into fewer and fewer hands while justifying it with whatever ideology is most convenient.

Born in 1967 in Frankfurt, Thiel spent his formative years in Swakopmund, Namibia — a town where ex-Nazis were celebrated and the Hitler salute was common. This wasn’t a quirky childhood detail. It was an education in the marriage of capital and authoritarianism. His father moved continents to escape the progressive post-war consensus in Europe, seeking refuge in apartheid South Africa’s uranium industry — a system built on racial exploitation serving nuclear proliferation.

At Stanford, while the student movement fought to divest from apartheid, Thiel defended it. He called it “a system that works.” When the anti-apartheid movement succeeded — when organized people power forced Reagan to sanction the regime — Thiel saw not a victory for human dignity, but a threat to the social order he benefited from.

This is the thread that connects everything he’s done since:

PayPal (1998): Created a payment system that bypassed regulated banking, allowing capital to flow globally beyond the reach of democratic oversight. The libertarian dream — money without government — is actually a nightmare: capital without accountability.

Facebook investor (2004): Funded the platform that would weaponize surveillance capitalism, manipulating elections, radicalizing populations, and destroying the public sphere — all while extracting billions from the wreckage.

Palantir (2003): Built a surveillance infrastructure for the security state — ICE, the military, intelligence agencies. A system designed to track, profile, and control populations worldwide. As its founder said, “We power ICE. We power efforts to defend America in Ukraine.”

Gawker litigation (2016): Funded a decade-long legal campaign to destroy a media outlet that outed him, chilling press freedom and proving that billionaires can silence critics through lawfare.

Trump backing (2016): Helped install a populist authoritarian, hoping to smash what constitutional constraints remained on executive power, then abandoned him when he proved too chaotic to control.

Curtis Yarvin / “Dark Enlightenment” (2010s-present): Bankrolled the intellectual movement that argues democracy is a failed experiment and that a “CEO-style” monarchy should replace it. Thiel has publicly stated that “freedom and democracy are incompatible” and that women’s suffrage should be repealed.

The “Antichrist” theology (2020s): In recent years, Thiel has gone even further — giving lectures claiming that progressive ideas, charity, environmental protection, and international financial regulation are signs of the Antichrist. He argues that democracy is “useless” and should be replaced with monarchy.

The throughline is unmistakable: Whenever democratic accountability threatens the accumulation of wealth, Thiel attacks democracy. Whenever regulation threatens his industry, he calls it apocalyptic. Whenever human rights constrain exploitation, he calls them irrational.

Peter Thiel is not the Antichrist. He is something more dangerous — a product of capitalism in its dying stages, where the ruling class no longer bothers to pretend that the system serves anyone but themselves. The “philosophy” shifts (libertarian → monarchist → theocratic reactionary) not because Thiel is a deep thinker, but because he opportunistically grabs whatever ideology justifies the next power grab.

The real lesson of Peter Thiel? Individual billionaires can be exposed, criticized, even stopped. But as long as the system that creates them exists, there will always be another Thiel — another man raised in the toxic confluence of apartheid, Nazi nostalgia, and unaccountable capital — ready to buy the state, surveil the people, and call it freedom.

What Thiel calls “freedom” is the freedom of capital to destroy everything in its path. What he calls the “Antichrist” is anything that stands in its way.
