The balance of the evidence does not support the claim of human-to-human transmission of ANDV. Well-designed cohort and case-control studies that control for co-exposure to rodents are needed to inform public health recommendations.

Don’t we have evidence of human to human transmission from this current outbreak? From the secondary infections?
Yes, the Andes virus strain that killed the people on the cruise has been transmitted from human to human before, afaik it’s the only strain of Hanta so far where that has been documented. So this is not a new development. And previous Andes virus outbreaks with human to human transmission have been contained quickly in the past, but obviously that doesn’t excuse how the US or some of the German states (notably those with strong antivax presence, go figure) are handling the return of their passengers.
Possibly, I’m just trying to understand the transmission method in human to human cases. I’m sure there will be more studies.
