I’m guessing this is some chud news take, it was in reference to the cracker barrel culture war bs. Just really threw me off to hear an investment firm be called “woke”

I know two people who have toddlers, and both of those toddlers will call any food they don’t like “spicy”. The tomato is too spicy. This cheese is too spicy. This yogurt is too spicy. To them it just means a food they don’t like, probably because at some point they were given something actually spicy they didn’t like, and their parent said “Oh, is it too spicy?”. From there, they inferred that spicy meant bad. For a toddler, that’s not a bad inference to make.
A key difference is these kids are 3 years old, and your boss is presumably a grown adult. Some people really are less developed than toddlers.
Hey, my toddler is doing the same thing. Sour or temperature hot also equates to “spicy”
My mom is like this and she’s like 70
i’ve met multiple adults who called the weirdest shit “spicy” and i eventually narrowed down the common element to vinegar
“spicy” apparently just means “make tongue feel funny”
You’ve identified a key linguistic concept there. Hyponymy and hypernymy. It’s a stage of child language development/language acquisition
In linguistics, a hyponym is a more specific word whose meaning is included in a more general term, known as a hypernym (or superordinate). For example, “rose” is a hyponym of “flower,” because a rose is a type of flower. This hyponymy relationship illustrates a hierarchical structure within language where words are organized from general to specific categories.
