Snip:

Joe Kent, head of the US National Counterterrorism Center, has officially resigned over his opposition to the brutal war on Iran launched by Washington and Tel Aviv late last month.

“After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that this war started due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby,” Kent said on 17 March in a letter of resignation.

[…]

Kent is the first official to resign over the war on Iran. However, several US Representatives have strongly criticized Washington’s decision.

“Trump has launched an illegal regime change war in Iran,” said Republican Representative Thomas Massie in early March.

You can tell from his statement that he’s a diehard Trumper. He’s genuinely pleading to Trump to wake up and see what a terrible mistake he’s made.

His principled loyalist faction in the GOP seems to think it’s a Wormtongue/Theoden situation with Israel/AIPAC on the Iran War. They’re in for a surprise when reality hits, but it’s a good thing that they’re starting to get to the point that the cognitive dissonance can no longer be resolved.

There’s a chance this is part of a coordinated effort by some republicans to blame Israel for the war in Iran. Tucker, this guy, and I’m sure others are going to all be telling the base that Israel tricked poor Trump into the war and it’s all Israel’s fault, so if you’re mad about it be mad at Israel (and they’ll probably be more explicit about being mad at Jewish people too) not poor Trump and the GOP who just got hoodwinked by the clever (insert slurs here).

The conservative base has turned massively against the administration over this and Epstein. Not that it matters. The Republican party is almost as disconnected and indifferent to its base as the Democrats are. And just like the Democrat base, their base will keep falling for it every single time.
