that first album was so fucking dark and cool and weird and as i think ive mentioned before Dr. Know from Bad Brains does the solo on Time Consumer (fucking dope)
second album was also good, love seeing a band progress in a way that makes sense and stays true to themselves; third album was basically their breakout success (thanks guitar hero), and then every album got fucking weird and overproduced and just generally sucked. like i can kinda get into a couple one-off tracks from later albums, but man, its all pretty meh. does anyone like their newer shit?
not tryna hate, i just hadent listened to this band in like half a decade, came back to their debut and was just like “wow second stage turnbine blade is really, really good. what happened?”
I got into them a little later on and I remember liking the Afterman albums a lot, Sentry the Defiant is a certified banger and one of the best in their discography imo. But beyond that I kind of stopped listening to them.
this was literally one of the only “one off” songs i was thinking of when referring to later albums.
Baby voice post-hardcore bands never last. Hail the sun is the exception tho
I feel exactly the same way. Their emo post-hardcore stuff is so good and the rest of it’s shitty alt-rock semi-prog stuff.
Checking out Anatomy Of A Ghost who scratch a similar itch right now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFO4FyqRrvg
i also feel entirely the same way. tbh the more i learned about the ‘story’ the less I found myself liking them
“If Jessie’s Girl is such a great song then why isn’t there a Jessie’s Girl 2”

Coheed and Cambria: Jessie’s Girl 2
