The most misogynistic and homophobic men I know (family, unfortunately) would be fine with this, but every step in representation counts as progress.
This was over 30 years ago, plenty of people were shocked and outraged.
Hell, when Neneh Cherry performed on Top of the Pops while pregnant they had a whole slew of complaints, including ones that said women should not be seen in public “during their confinement” (which was a Victorian thing)
That’s fairly shocking alright. And I come from a formerly catholic country (Ireland) which continues to treat women terribly.
