Don’t actually start shit please.
So my take
meat take
is that boneless chicken wings are in all ways superior to normal chicken wings.
vegetarian take
Firm tofu is hands down better than all other forms of tofu, tempeh, etc.
And mash potatoes on pizza isn’t actually that bad. Just make it a proper pureé instead of smooshing up a baked potato with a spoon and calling it a day.
Italian food is mid. Sweet food sucks. Acidic food sucks. Savory and sour is where it’s at. Czechs are better at cooking than the Fr*nch who think they’re culinary masters for making animals eat only butter and using endless garlic and butter on everything. Wine is also garbage. Thick, dark beers (so dark they taste like chocolate and bread) are the optimal way to drink alcohol.
Dunno about the Czech cooking part since I don’t think I’ve had anything Czech besides beer, but 1000% agree.
Czech is the ultimate fusion of Hungarian, German, and Slavic dishes. We’ve mastered pairing sour foods and dressings with beers that taste like dark chocolate, wheat, and honey with high alcohol and low sugar counts. Idk I’m kinda a chauvinist about our food lmao it’s way better than everywhere else
I also like sour plum vodka stuff that is our national drink but it’s more for a party shot imo not something you sit down and eat.
Also nothing beats drinking a great beer in Prague near a nice misty river surrounded by dense walkable landscapes of ancient buildings. Only other cities in Europe I’d say are maybe better are Copenhagen and Vienna, our food is better tho
A lot of Czech food is based on sour sauces which works great for vegan conversion recipes btw
Do you happen to have any favorite Czech recipes on hand?
I don’t, I usually call my grandma and ask for advice while cooking. Ask me again in a day or two and I’ll let you know her sour sauce recipes I’ll ask about it
Oh hell yeah, thank you! I cannot tell you how stoked I am about this!!
I get it, I’m the same chauvinistic with Korean cuisine. Also the plum wodka has caught my attention. If it’s anything like the plum wine we got over in Korea - but stronger - then I think I’d love a trip to Czechia over krautland
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slivovitz
It’s this. Technically our national drink is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Becherovka but Slivovitz is what czech grandma’s get day drunk on and harass you to drink with them with so it’s the real national drink. It’s technically the official drink of Moravia which is just spicy Czech. Then there is obviously the many varieties of beer. Let’s just say Czechs are alcoholic for a reason we figured this shit out a thousand years ago
Slivovitz was weirdly associated with Yugoslav people here a while back (I don’t know if it still is). You have movies from the 70s or so which identifies a Balkan person by them drinking slivovitz. Like “Oh he’s Yugoslav, better get him some Slivovitz” or “On days like this I miss my homeland of Serbia, and I have to get some Slivovitz to cure my homesickness”. It’s in like 5 different old movies and shows I can think of.
Everybody in the Balkans claims it originates with them but the oldest active distillery for it is Czech so I’m saying it’s Czech
Bulgarians get second place.
It’s probably the perfect shot drink tho imo.
This smells like that usual thing where every Slavic thing is uniquely [The type of Slav currently talking] and a part of their distinct heritage.
Slivovitz is also 50% alcohol but it’s usually so sour you can’t really taste it. It’s fun.
Oh hell yeah I love fruity and sour
I really enjoyed the food I had when I was in Czechia but after being in a lot of other Eastern European countries it didn’t stand out too much. The beer is inarguably the best in the region though and I’ve ended up drinking a lot of Czech beer in other countries. I think my favorite meal so far has been in Romania though, Italy certainly didn’t live up to the hype. I would also put Slovene above Czech food but I’m biased by getting homemade goodies from family there
The KSCM has dispatched a hit squad to your house. Prepare to die, western roader
I mean yeah I like Romanian and Greek too. Also the beer taps in Czechia are just better too the beer is so fresh
