Finding music for me is very very easy, and honestly it’s overwhelming for me. And I have to restrict myself because I can spend my entire day looking for stuff

(1. ) Bandcamp is the go to place to find artists releasing in the modern day. Can’t go wrong by looking through the discover page and reading posts made by the staff. Currently one of my favorite albums of 2025 I found because of their recommendation is The Spin by Messa.

(2. ) Rateyourmusic charts has everything you can dream of for indie genres as a whole. You can get really random with it “best gothic rock albums in 2005”, “best hardcore albums in 1995”. Theres also the lists that people make on there as well. Thats how I found one of my favorite albums from Argentinas shortlived 80s post punk scene, El Corte.

People say the top albums of the years charts are pretentious, but I disagree. Theres definitely been a shift these days with Magdalena Bays album being number 1 last year. A dance pop album made by a teenager in her room got on the charts, CeCe Natalie - Miss Behaves. Zach Bryan one of the most listened to modern country artists was even on the charts (I dont think he’s all that good though).

(3. ) Youtube playlists are a goldmine, if you want to find classics from genres internationally and from the past its amazing. If you want to listen to italian mob music at the pizza place you work at I have a playlist someone made for that. If I want to listen to classic retro game bangers, I have a playlist for that. 80s Yugoslavia post punk? 50s Brazil Samba? Classic Anti fascist skinhead punk?

(4. ) When Im buying records on discogs, I end up looking through what the seller has. This is a big time waster for me. You can also buy records and CDs at your local shop and get recommendations from people there or the shop owner. The owner can also ship In the music you want to buy as well, THIS IS A BIG ONE. You dont have to pay the shipping cost like you do buying online. Sometimes my guy doesnt even charge me taxes when I buy, I dont know if thats legal for him but

(5. ) Look at the label a band is signed too. Guaranteed goldmine right there. One of my favorite punk labels currently is La Vida Es un Mus.

(6. ) The old fashioned, going to shows and asking people what their favorite bands are.

Theres also blogs but I dont know much about that.

Anyways fuck Spotify, I never use it. You cant find majority of old school EDM and punk on it. They dont pay artists shit, and and last time I had it 2 years ago, disgusting liberal podcasts were the first things I would see on the homepage. 🤮 I recommend buying the music from the artist or label if you have the cash, Ive found mental health benefits from tucking in my collection at night.
