Is there a website or a list that showcases ‘dumb’ electronics that don’t need Wi-Fi to operate? It appears that there aren’t many new dumb TVs on the market, so having such a resource would be really beneficial.

I’m back to report my findings. I covered over the light with electrical tape, but I hit a problem. Now my remote control doesn’t work.

They’ve combined the IR sensor with the LED that flashes when there is no internet connection present. The clever bastards clearly thought of this ahead of time.

      This is malicious design.

Also, if you run anything reasonably hobbiest+ for your home network, you could create an iot vlan that blocks any outgoing traffic and connect it to that. That’s what I do for all my things so I can still control them with home assistant but they can’t call outside my network.

You’re right. Might as well do it. Stop letting them harvest my data. I just hope there isn’t some sort of persistent pop up or anything annoying.

Malakas. E: I’m pretty cynical, but it’s probably less malicious and more design convenience to have a led in the ir module.
