Walking around Lemmy like:
RADIO RAHEEM! THAT’S THE HYPE, YO!
Radio Raheem was very polarizing, you either LOVE him or HATE him.
I loved him
I thought boomboxes were peak coolness in the 80’s.
My dad wouldn’t let me get one with 2 speakers. Only one speaker. I still don’t understand that reasoning.
Like this:
lol, that’s weird. “I forbid you from listening to music in stereo!”
Probably too much stimulation like that Kellogg brother was talking about.
Or maybe he thought two speakers would be louder, and he didn’t want to be constantly bombarded by your satanic rap music.
Mono rap is the devil!
That configuration allows for a much larger driver than if you had stereo mains—probably get some decent boom out of it
Two speakers, meh. A lot of them had two tape decks and could copy tapes at 2x or 4x speed, for one-click music piracy.
They were!
Man, I miss boom boxes…
then you remember they required a family of D batteries and lasted 2 hours tops. meanwhile my phone can connect to several speaker and headphone sets and deliver astonishing quality compared to tapes, while barely moving the battery meter.
Imagine the lifespan you could get from one that’s been converted to modern li-ion.
If your phone did the full signal amplification and driving of the speakers, that battery would die pretty quickly too.
Only, like, 8 D cells, which only cost 1 paycheck or so 😅
What?!? They lasted months. MONTHS
I miss when hip hop was fun
The decent ones are ridiculously expensive now. It’s crazy. If the one he’s holding is the one I think it is, that specific models is worth thousands now.
I liked the culture of it.
And the constant one-upsmanship to make them more and more ridiculous

Great movie
