Depends on whose objecting. This arrangement pretty much only works at scale with a combination of religious brainwashing, inequality between and amongst the genders, and a healthy dose of male mortality especially from war.

Inequality among a gender: For instance if bob and Sam both make 70k 5 women aren’t all marrying one or the other in most instances.

Inequality between the genders: Given a complex life path beyond follow in husband’s shadow no matter what or become a parish the chance of instability with more people increases with each member added.

So the first obvious person to object to broad enactment of this idea ought to be women raised to buy into this when it’s not their best option.

Next is society for such groups brainwashing kids.

Then there is the downside of the enabling inequality. Anyone not on the top end of the financial spectrum ought to object to that.

Women ought to object to the idea that they ought to share.

Men not in the top 5-20% ought to object to competing for the remaining women not attached to high status males. Note this is what incels say they are mad about now but there is so much to unpack re their broken brains and it’s just not at this juncture real.

Society should be mad at the very large number of unattached men who normally cause trouble.

Some such societies deal with this by trading women like Pokemon cards and driving off excess men. This doesn’t work without wars to kill them off or somewhere to drive them to.

Basically everyone but a smallish minority of men would be worse off which is why this is non existent in modern functioning society.

There little net effect on society with a small incidence of polygomy just like with lead in the water.

  • In case anyone finds the headline confusing this is what happened in order

    1. Rodney Hinton the older hit a much beloved semi retired deputy who was directing traffic for a college graduation. He is accused of doing so intentionally but the motive isn’t specified. He was not accused of stealing a car nor did it have anything to do with any other specified crime. This is pending trial.

    2. Ryan Hinton, son of Rodney Hinton, was involved in a car theft. He and 3 others were caught in said car and scattered in 4 different directions when police made contact.

    3. During the chase police shot and killed Ryan whom they allege had a gun on him. Indeed a gun was recovered. Purported to be in possession of the young man who was shot. That said the body cam footage is alleged to show another officer yelling about a gun rather than the gun itself from the vantage point of the officer.

    Questions:

Is Rodney guilty of killing the deputy on purpose? If so why? Was it instead an accident?

Did the officer that shot the boy know he was the son of Rodney?

Why did Rodney pull out a gun but not fire it?

Is there further evidence showing the history of the particular gun? Fingerprints on the gun? Body cam footage from the other officer that more clearly establishes the gun in the hand of Rodney?

  • He mishandled covid leading to lots of extra death and when they wouldn’t elect him again he organized a lynch mob to storm the capitol and we all watched both crisis play out live on TV. None the less 94% of those who consider themselves Republicans voted for Trump in 2024. They are absolutely incapable of learning.

If we literally become the nazis and round up and murder millions before Trump offs himself in a bunker they will find a way to blame it on the Democrats and make Trump the victim then vote for someone who venerates him. We literally can’t fix them nor expect them to be fixed. We can only work on the folks in the middle the famous persuadable voter eg those too stupid to have a clear position.

  • We decided we needed to be able to shut down drug dealers by seizing their money without need for any real proof. Since then the majority of seizures, 84%, are civil most incidental to purposeless searches that turn up no crime. Many seizures are in fact under $1000 and most are under $2000. In theory you can get your money back but it often would cost thousands so for most victims its impossible to actually get money back without spending more.

Basically for decades the authorities have been acting as robbers and have collectively stolen billions from the people directly often stopping minorities for driving while black and treating the $400 in random bob’s wallet as proceeds of an imaginary crime they don’t need to substantiate. Being black and having $400 is enough.

You are completely wrong about this. The cashier UI is less friendly and has lots of functions. Many are designed to be used with a keyboard or with small touch targets.

The user UI can basically do nothing but add items and pay. It is drastically simplified with few larger buttons and a greater degree of thought put into UI as you don’t get to train every user to use your UI.

The cashier at the self checkout is to

    A) Do things that require intervention like verify your ID to sell alcohol

    B) Help people having trouble

    C) Keep people from literally paying for a banana and taking home TVs

They aren’t there to check you out. If you spend usually spend 15 minutes driving to the store, 15 minutes gathering a cart, and then walk away and spend 15 minutes driving home empty handed I believe the joke is on you. The employees get paid at this point $20 an hour to put away your shit while you wasted your own time and gas.

  • History is basically thousands of years of horrors during which people mostly believes their deity approved of all the awful things they did. It isnt the decline of the sacred that opened up this particular can of worms.

If anything its a swing towards authoritianism as a reaction to a whole host of factors.

    • Changing demographics making white people and men afraid of losing their privileged position

    • Decline in relegion making the remaining faithful fearful of living in a world where most disagree with them

    • Apathy on the left due to left wing figures desire not to rock the boat and pwrsue real change

    • Centralization of media by a handful of people with interests more aligned with the right followed by decades of brainwashing

    • A characteristic figure to be the focus of the above

    • Rising inequality to put pressure on the common folks.

Its weird to live in a world where the atheists overwhelmingly voted for normalcy and the devout voted 70% for fascism and still see godless people blamed for what you voted for.
