most terminal fonts are very careful to distinguish them. commonly i uses an extra half-serif up top and l a tail, making it look a bit like a backwards j.

i get the rationale of the dev that it’s too easy to masquerade as another user, but it feels like that could probably be worked around. reveal the real name when poked or something. anyway i tend to go though old convos in the browser so i tend to pick up people’s displaynames.
