I was looking for Sleep As Android too!! Separately to this I saw a comment on R a while ago asking for FOSS alternatives, and to say the dev’s response was out-of-touch would be an understatement. They just complained about not being able to make a living from a FOSS app…

Regarding Gadgetbridge though, those devs and contributors are running into more and more accessories using encrypted protocols which is a bit worrying. Right now I’ve settled on the BangleJS which has official support, just wish it had a more accurate heart rate sensor!

My dream FOSS health app would be some concoction of OpenScale and Gadgetbridge 😂

Plain AOSP doesn’t include a dialer/phone app, camera app, or clock app anymore AFAIK, so for me i’d consider base to be AOSP+GApps

I migrated my HTPC to Linux several years ago, and since then just transitioned more and more of my machines over.

My desktop is the only machine left running Windows at this point due to there being no Freetrack implementation on Linux for sim games

I’m rooted to…

• backup & restore my apps as I please (as well as scheduled backups to my SD card)
• BMS control to keep my battery in good health
• Automation app for automating stuff (like Tasker)
• revoking typically unrevokable permissions from system and Google apps
• To actually feel like I own my device.

If I wanted a heavily curated (and somewhat locked down) experience, I’d be in the Apple ecosystem - don’t know why Google thinks it’s a great idea to force this ideology onto practically all Android users…

Similar situation with that additional warning for sideloading apps - there’s already two warnings and Play Protect typically uninstalls these apps anyway, without the user’s consent - in one case deleting KDE Connect from users’ devices if installed with F-Droid

No idea why the keyboard app is “large”. Could it be for support on obsolete Android devices where they’ve needed to re-implement missing APIs and features entirely themselves (like Firefox/Fennec and the Share menu)?

They could also be using completely different local AI tooling, or a custom trained model that has a higher space footprint compared to other similar apps. As always the true answer lies in the available code…

No - however you could look for macro boards that have VIA firmware, as most of those can be configured using Chrome browser (WebHID), unless your org has an enterprise policy that interferes with that? The config software runs in Chrome as a website - so worth checking if the VIA keyboard web app is accessible on your work machine before purchasing a macro pad.

VIA firmware stores the config in the keyboard’s internal eeprom AFAIK, so you should be able to setup your macros from another computer or android phone and still use them when connected to your work machine - unlike other software like Logitech Options where the config is deleted from the peripheral after a connection interruption…

Does your employer have a policy allowing you to request software to be installed on your machine, especially if it’s needed for work? I had Logitech Options installed on my first day with no hassle from IT. Your situation sounds a lot like an unfortunate case of possibly power tripping IT admins doing more harm than good

Lying about your age could be a problem in certain scenarios, like say some kind of medical situation, or even if a coworker expresses romantic interest with the belief that your age is something completely different. It’s not ideal, but I would probably suggest to tread carefully with it.

Don’t know the dynamics of your work assignment - however if you trust your manager it might be worth having a quick conversation about it to see if you can at least be put onto tasks that take your body’s condition into consideration.

I picked up Grayjay so I can actually watch early access videos from creators I follow on Patreon. I honestly love how it seamlessly integrates multiple services around creators. Also supports Nebula, and IMO provides a nicer experience compared to the official app.

I use it on the deck - it works really well, however you can definitely see the artifacting when fast motion is occuring. There are also some odd bugs when using SMAA with FSR turned on, where the frame gen model gets confused and starts moving the game UI/HUD with the camera.

Apparently it works much better at framerates above 60FPS since the model has more data to predict future frames…

If you have genuine DLSS available it’s probably better to stick to that IMO
