  • Amid a growing partnership between China and Russia, Mandarin has been growing in popularity across Russia as a foreign language of choice, a trend Putin said was due to developing contacts across economics, politics and society.

Putin, who speaks fluent German but has also taken lessons to improve his English, said that pupils should not forget the importance of English.

Russian, English, Tatar, German and Chechen are the most widely spoken languages in Russia, according to the 2022 census. While Mandarin is spoken far less, it has been growing swiftly in popularity in recent years as a foreign language.

English is the world’s most spoken language with about 1.5 billion speakers, followed by Mandarin Chinese with about 1.1 billion speakers, and then Hindi, Spanish, Arabic, French, Bengali, Portuguese, Russian and Urdu, according to Ethnologue, a language research centre.

  • That person and two other sources said many donors joined hoping to get an insider’s view of how to move forward in the wake of President Joe Biden’s dismal debate performance and the growing number of Democrats calling for him to drop out of the race. Instead, they said donors left the call feeling disappointed and like they had not gained any new insights or helpful information.

The call had been organized by Jen O’Malley Dillon, the chair of Biden’s campaign, and not by the campaign’s finance team, according to a source familiar with the planning. One of the sources who was on the call said that the donors who participated represented a wide range of views — some diehard Biden fans, some unconvinced about his path forward and many views in between.

“Please help us turn down the volume on this conversation publicly,” Melissa Morales, founder and president of Somos Votantes, said on the call, according to a transcript obtained by NBC News. “It’s time to stop the leaks and the rampant rumors. Your message has been heard and received. But every day that we continue this publicly chaotic conversation, we come closer to a loss — no matter who the nominee is.”

“These are donors who are not used to getting admonished and told what to do,” the source said.

“She is on a tightrope. She has to be very careful not to alienate Biden,” Alickman said when asked about Harris praising Biden throughout the speech. “I actually would like to see Kamala at the top of the ticket. She could carry out and continue the policies of the Biden administration. I love Biden but I’m not sure he is up to the job. And, I’m worried he is going to lose against Trump.”

“I love Joe,” Newton said. “In a business context, it’s like your 81 year old salesman that’s goofed up at the convention and not making his numbers. And, you gotta go in and tell him, ‘Judy is replacing you.’ It’s no fun. But sadly that has to happen.”

  • Awesome start!

Company could endure biggest US strike of 2024 as unions accuse it of intimidation during contract negotiations

The vote does not mean the workers will go on strike yet, but that the unions can call a strike at any point. If a strike takes place, it will be the largest strike so far in 2024.

In a survey conducted earlier this year, the union said that 28% of its members have food insecurity, 64% are rent-burdened and 42% missed work for medical treatment because they didn’t have enough sick leave.

Workers are also advocating for higher wages. The current minimum wage under Anaheim law is $19.90.

The current contract expired on 16 June. Contract negotiations have been taking place since late April.

"We have people who work at Disneyland who have to choose between paying their rent or buying groceries. There are people who go without medical care because they can’t afford it. There are people who rely on the food banks, and the churches, or food supplements,” Coleen Palmer, a cashier at Disneyland for more than 30 years and a member of the bargaining committee, told the Guardian earlier this month. “This is a place where people want to work but they want to be able to make a living doing what they’re doing and that’s what we’re fighting for.”

    Here is the about section:

“The More You Know”[1] is a series of public service announcements that has been running on NBC Universal programming in the United States since September 1989. Each clip typically begin with an educational message from a celebrity and conclude with an animated sequence of a comet trail created by Paul Johnson. Being one of the longest-running network public service campaigns to date, the PSA series has been widely parodied both online and in popular culture.

  • It seems like it is just a new PR name for what the status quo has been trying to do for decades[1].

If I understand the commentary from sources correctly[2].

“Like some on the right, severe right, came up with this Project 25, I don’t even know, some of them I know who they are, but they’re very, very conservative,” Trump said. “They’re sort of the opposite of the radical left.”

“You have the radical left and the radical right and they come up — I don’t know what the hell it is, it’s Project 25,” he continued. “‘He’s involved in project — and then they read some of the things and they are extreme, they’re seriously extreme.

“But I don’t know anything about it, I don’t want to know anything about it.”

Project 2025 is led by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, and more than a dozen former Trump administration officials.

The document includes plans to expand his executive authority, replace civil servants with loyalists, crush abortion rights, attack civil rights for LGBTQ+ people and impose an anti-immigrant agenda, among other policies.

He also claims the plan is “extreme,” but the document mirrors several policies the former president himself has endorsed.

“Project 2025 will not be ‘stopped’ by an unserious, mistake-riddled press release or a task force of House Democrats lacking a basic understanding of federal governance,” Roberts said in a statement.
