  • Yeah, but it’s not Youtube making the content I guess is my problem.

They might not be making the content, but providing a platform for video is not cheap.

Providing a platform that allows anyone to upload a ridiculous 10 hours in a single video in whatever crazy resolution they want, for free, really is not cheap. Then the bandwidth to deliver that 10 hour video at 4K, not to mention infrastructure to handle millions upon millions of people around the world is really really really not cheap.

So its not like they’re not contributing anything. Reddit OTOH handled mostly text, which is cheap. Most of everything else like images and videos were just links to other hosts that did the heavy lifting like imgur or YT

  • I loathe that quote, it’s so much more nuanced.

A program from the 90s whose task is just to run a piece of machinery? Not broke, no problem

A program from the 90s supporting the bulk of an entire countrys economy that literally can’t handle real-time transactions and causes numerous knock on effects as a result? Time replace the shit

  • You need to pay attention to the thread you’re in, nobody asked for 24/7 operation. This entire thread is about businesses that are only open 9-5 on weekdays or some shit. People here are asking for open hours till like 7 or 8 not 2 AM or maybe like a 11-5 on a Saturday.

And FYI, pre-pandemic most Wal-Marts were 24/7, but it proved expensive and they used the plague as an excuse to kill it off. It was their own decision, not regulations.

  • Those things are a joke, have you ever been on Medicare? It’s terrible and are still strangled by private insurances at every turn.

A few years ago, it was calculated that moving to a single-payer healthcare system and abolishing private healthcare would, at worst, increase an individuals tax to like <$1000/yr

I have a fairly decent employer provided insurance and even then it’s still 500+ a MONTH in just premiums. Before even factoring in other private insurance bullshit like copays and out of pockets and a myriad of other fees and gotchas, I’ll exceed that 1000 tax bill in like 2 months.

Even if you’re a selfish conservative asshole, it would save you so much money as well.

But sure, keep listening spouting the rich elite propaganda, you’re just a temporarily embarrassed billionaire after all.
