Also there’s 1 legit reason to not use physical knobs for those - voice/software controls. A software controlled value may get mismatched with the position of the knob, unless you spend a lot of money to have a motor control those knobs. And you might say “what if they use those digital knobs things that only send the rotation?”, now that will not have a proper feedback on where the dial starts and ends, and you end up having to LOOK at the indicator to know whether you set them to the correct settings again, making it just as distracting as using the digital screens.

The way AC work is it just goes in either “go hotter” or “go colder”, then stops when the target temperature is reached. Setting your temperature to 18C don’t actually make it colder faster, it’s the fan speed that adjusts the intensity of how hard the AC works.

You can just set it to 20C right at the start and it will heat it up at more or less the same speed as if you set it to 24C
