Their audience will see it, momentarily snap out of the inertia, download a new app, and barely notice the difference. Non-fascist politicians and news orgs who have to go to where the people are will have cover and can follow suit. It can be over in a week.
The prior manager for McDonald’s was fired but then lied to everyone about it and when the new manager was going to arrive, tried to burn down the building. He was kicked out.
Four years later he’s applying for manager of the same McDonald’s. Maybe we should, you know, consider the whole “burn down the building” thing?

The scary possibility to me, though, is that conservative voting has decoupled from policy. It is no longer correlated to conservative support on issues.
If indeed these young people become Trump voters, it’s extremely likely they will be doing so despite it contradicting their own policy issues and self-interest (like a huge percentage of non-young blue-collar Trump voters).
I think it’s just the overall tightening of the right wing echo chamber. Yes, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, all create spaces for right-wing chauvinists to capture young men when they are most impressionable and feel least seen.
But also these are dividends from Fox News slowly poisoning discourse and rural communities treating being liberal or left as an immoral betrayal of your kin and kind. For those people, being conservative is seen as being sane and the natural state of things, and no amount of facts or cognitive dissonance can influence those communities to change.
The only way to reverse it is to find a way to prevent those top-down right-wing spaces from engaging in propaganda. But not only is that difficult with the First Amendment, we haven’t even politically acknowledged what is happening.
Conservatives still gaslight and play the victims while exerting excessive influence on our discourse. The left continues to treat them with kid gloves, which only emboldens them. So I expect this trend to fully continue.

I’m all for people trying, so agree with this.
But my experience: I haven’t had a good night’s sleep in 10 years (wake up and am half-asleep, half-awake most of the night). I went to a sleep study, did the sleep-in-hospital-with-electrodes-everywhere thing, met with three doctors in series after, and their conclusion was that I should sleep more. I wish I was joking.

Yep. Harris is a traditional, middle-of-the-road milquetoast politician. She’s probably too conservative for progressives and regardless of her positions will be painted as a flaming lefty by conservative media. She will probably have similar results to Biden, who was until now on track to lose.
I hope that she gains some superhuman self-awareness and takes some risks with actual progressive politics - she’ll get bad press from the Fox echo chamber, but right now she needs any press to get voters to pay attention.
