  • Many communists would be ideologically open to working with Food Not Bombs. Many anarchists would work with a communist organization to promote universal healthcare.

I don’t consider myself an anarchist, but in my personal experience, I see more anarchists practicing praxis. As a noob leftist, I’m going to see who is contributing to my community and help them out.

I suppose these are the “certain instances” you mentioned, but I feel like there are enough of these to comprise all the activism I personally am capable of. I’m studying theory. I listen when people talk about goals and how to restructure society, but I’ll be happy if we can pass socialized medicine in my lifetime. We can worry about “after the revolution” when we come to it.

  • During the investigation of child sexual abuse, if the perpetrator is a Catholic, they’ll ask if the abuser confessed. If so, the priest is liable to be prosecuted.

Honestly, my biggest problem with the law is how unlikely it is to ever be prosecuted. Proving that an abuser confessed would be impossible. They are infringing on the First Amendment and ensuring that no abuser ever talks to their priest, but in practice priests probably won’t follow the law and if they don’t the state is unlikely to actually enforce the law.

  • If things worked the way they should you don’t just confess your sin and go about your day. The priest assigns a penance. We are at the edge of my knowledge, and I would love for a Catholic to chime in, but I know penance can be harsh, especially for a grave sin. I’m not sure how it works in practice.

The idea is certainly not to just allow it to continue. Here we get to obvious failings of the Catholic Church. But, honestly, it’s not like the government is that great about protecting children from powerful men either.

  • Someone could probably do this. But it would just be a fun project, not replicable.

You’d need to write your own printer driver. There are probably some open source libraries out there to do most of the heavy lifting, but it’s still a project.

The big issue is going to be the interface between the pi and the printer’s “motors and wiring”. Doable, but too finicky to publish a “kit” or something for someone else to replicate. It could be worth the work if it would help other people, but I don’t think that’s on the table.

Honestly, I think anyone with the ability to do that would probably find it easier to just build their own printer.

Everyone uses this cliche. Nobody seems to understand it.

a bad or reckless manager can put the company at significant risk

Yes. In this circumstance, the manager opened the company up to a lawsuit with his comments. It would have protected the company to punish him or have him take some sort of class.

You can just say that HR is usually bad at their jobs. “Protecting the company not the employee” is completely meaningless here.
