Republican state lawmakers released an extensive bill to give parents more authority over their children’s education, making it easier for them to access instructional materials, prosecute librarians and remove superintendents.
The bill also requires schools to inform parents if their child begins identifying as a different gender — a measure that was already included in the legislature’s proposed Parents’ Bill of Rights. Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed that last week, though an override is likely by the Republican supermajority.
“Prosecute librarians”? WTF?
Coming soon: “From now on you will get all news and information from the Party. Anyone caught trafficking in other filth will be prosecuted for treason.”
Every day, it gets scarier to be a teacher in this country. My state is fairly liberal, but who knows how long before they start book burnings and destroying the trust between my students and me.
Governor would veto if it gets that far.
Copper will certainly veto it but the problem is the GOP has a veto-proof majority in the state legislature, so they can potentially override his veto.
Clarify that minors have no authority to consent to mental health treatment unless they believe themselves to be a danger to themselves or others.
WTF. I’m sure it’s aimed at preventing transgender children from transitioning or receiving mental health treatment, but it reads like they want to make it illegal to provide mental health care to any and all children unless the child is suicidal. Meanwhile, we have a crisis in this country involving inadequate mental health care.
I think it does aim to outlaw mental health care to any and all children. Many conservatives don’t believe in mental health care and view those that seek it as weak.
That does sound like something weak people would project onto others. I’ll give you that much.
Use this to ban the bible and purge jingoism from schools, trump supporters can’t think straight, use it against them.
