Yeah, I think that they’d take some losses early. 1939 Europe is already experiencing total war and is ready to LET’S FUCKING GO wherever. Africa(or others) would need some time to react, and would probably take early territorial losses. If it were a very small 2026 country they might be overwhelmed, but I don’t think it’d be the end. Modern technology allows for extremely effective guerilla warfare

Even if they get to buy a bunch of shit first, unless that includes personnel who are elite guerillas, I don’t think the Vatican’s people are really going to succeed in guerilla warfare vs the Soviets, Nazi Germany, the European Allies, and let’s not forget being surrounded on all sides by Fascist Italy which, even if they are a pushover compared to the others, can still cooperate with the others and totally encircle the Vatican.

But even if we imagine Italy as a vacated neutral ground, there’s no winning guerilla warfare when literally every structure and tree that stands more than 10 ft tall is bombed out, and the ruins of important structures are firebombed even harder to just cook/suffocate survivors in any bunkers, and then you have like 30 million soldiers systematically rooting through the rubble with the help of tanks, etc. The scale genuinely makes opposition inconceivable unless you want to imagine mercenaries scattering through Italy and doing a Protracted Papists’ War or something.

Maybe I don’t know anything, I admit that I’m not like a military expert or anything, I just really thing there’s nothing doing here.
