What Trump has an affinity for is a ‘culture of respect’ and recognition of power, that exists within these countries, which develops out of a political environment where saying things actually has real consequences. Where saying some bullshit that you haven’t carefully considered is dangerous because you could be held personally liable for it. It is the same reason he likes the mafia, because they pretend to have that kind of culture (if it actually ever existed or not is debatable).
It’s an irony because he is in the position he is in precisely because the U.S. doesn’t have this culture of respect at all, because none of our opinions matter. The machinery of the capitalist state will just keep grinding on, and nobody in power is ever held liable for any of the dumb and dangerous shit they do and say, because otherwise they might actually have to fix things.
That said, there is a reason they do this though. The reason that Caeser seized power was to protect himself from prosecution in the Senate. So the theory goes that If you never prosecute people for their political crimes, you never get a Caesar. Which works out pretty damn well for the oligarchs.
