All other versions of the anime rename the original countries from the manga.
Israel = Ghorantl
US = Mag Union
USSR = Volgarena
Syria = Masemia

No worries, here’s a short clip of the Latin America dub I managed to dig up. The full dub is probably out there on torrent somewhere. Looks like I missed Saudi, not sure what name they used for that without checking. Whoever made this Latin America dub was clearly going rogue and dug up the manga to specifically get the original names rather than the script Amazon gave them. This probably makes their dub the most correct version of the show.
Hopefully some fansub group picks it up and uses the original names too. There’s enough reason to do it even if it’s just name changes. GitS has historically suffered from censorship of the manga releases too because it contains a couple of very graphic sex scenes which is annoying because if the sex scenes are censored Motoko’s lgbt side is erased from the story entirely.
Latam dubs do have the history of making sure to keep most of the original content from the original, like not translating the attack names in dragon ball for example, they probably decided to follow the old formula and amazon didnt like it
The first show had the American empire and I think the Russian federation as opposed to the USSR. Surprised they messed with this.
It’s pretty annoying with the USSR when socialism is directly mentioned numerous times in the story, characters from “Volgarena” regularly say comrade and the USSR cyber-helicopters are extremely obviously following USSR aesthetics.
i recall from the other thread that Ghorantl is basically japanese for golan-taker which would make it very obvious to the original audience who it was.

probably. none of those pseudonyms are subtle but it’s enough to get by the people who would piss and cry about it
