Yea they really cracked down on close up images of the victims of american wars during/after Vietnam, in later wars they really focus on the (visually) “cleaner” shots of bombs blowing up in populated areas or Call of Duty-esque thermal cameras showing glowing white figures being evaporated. The MSM doesn’t show you the victims on the ground, just the wide angle shock-and-awe “fireworks” that won’t make Joe Average start thinking a little about the actual consequences of military action. Instead they can hoot and hollar and cheer USA USA while watching lives torn apart
Plus in the aughts “embedding” was a masterful Pentagon PR move in Iran and Afghanistan. They controlled/censored the reporting and the footage. Shitty (but famous) journos and the MSM sold their souls and played along for the most important thing in American journalism: access.
