I can’t understand how Megatron inevitably goes from revolutionary leader for a better world to despot. How the hell do they think that goes?? I was rewatching Transformers One, and when Pax just like our new Cybertron can’t start with an execution. Really? How many footsoldiers did you slice apart?? And not without good reason, they were defending the status quo and trying to kill them, so it makes sense. And Sentinel Prime effectively was the status quo. He took every opportunity to try to kill them. It’s literally defending both yourself and the new world you’re making. But no, somehow Megatron’s the bad guy for noticing that. And the narrative turns him into some nihilistic dictator. Need a fic where Megatron’s just right.

    Most fictional revolutionaries arent wrong about the injustices they identify. The narrative has to make them behave outrageously because otherwise the audience might conclude that the revolutionary is simply correct.

    Doesnt matter whether its Megatron or Magneto or Killmonger etc.

    Revolutionaries are a threat to the neoliberal status quo and therefore can rarely be portrayed in a positive light.

    I just want stories to allow revolutionary characters to be noble without inevitably turning them into villains sadness

    Transformers One made me wish Hollywood types read theory. The revolution was a success, they fundamentally changed the transformers relationship to each other and energon. Megatron becoming a bad guy felt like the most forced thing because it had to happen. They could have been revolutionaries with differing opinions but writers don’t understand revolutionary politics enough to include that in the story
