I finally picked up palworld on the deck (previously had it on ps5). I have been playing that a bit.
Hope it is cross compatible and you don’t have to start all over again.
It is not, and I did have to start over again.
Sometimes you can do things like a GDPR request your cloud saves from Sony, then see if the Palworld save files are in any way transferable to PC.
This doesn’t usually work, but it’s really nice if it does.

skate story, i’ve beaten it twice and still wanna play more! by FAR the coolest skating game i’ve ever played.
It’s definitely visually striking

Man the community with the recent recompilations of old classics to play them natively and enhance them is crazy. I have to get into this too (but different games). I would have thought with the recompilation of a game on Windows, a native Linux version should be possible too.
There’s already a Linux build, but it crashes more oftenly. I want to try the Daytona Recomp.
It would be boring if I started talking about RetroArch again… so I will not mention it. At the moment I’m not playing too much on the Steam Deck, or in general for that matter. But I started recently playing Wreckfest, which is like Destruction Derby on Playstation (I’m old). Still early on and need to see if its any good in todays day and age.
I also want to go back to Shenmue 3, as a fan of the original Shenmue 1 and 2 on the Dreamcast. It feels like I would emulate an old game, lol. Man, I’m such a sucker for these oldschool games. There is also a new enhanced edition of Shenmue 3 upcoming, not sure if its worth the price and wait. Maybe I get it for free as an owner of the original version, just like that Rockstar did with GTA 5. Or maybe a discount…

I usually play Pokemon ROMhacks, but started playing Kirby Air Rider and Mario Sunshine.
Also Shadow of the Colossus. Granted none of the properly titled games are Retroarch, but I digress.
I actually force myself to play less emulation and more “normal” games. :D On my Steam Deck I use RetroArch Steam version almost exclusively to play emulation (which does not come with Playstation 2 core on the Steam store, I could install it myself but don’t want to manage my own version of the core). So it’s mostly old systems. As for more modern systems and games, I’m looking into DS and PSP. But didn’t start anything on them right now.
Often I just end up exploring new or random games with the intention of just trying them out for a short time, and that’s it then. Especially with Arcade, DOS or Amiga. I’m also into Romhacks and play MSU1 based SNES games with different soundtracks and additional enhancements. Then I try various Super Mario World Romhacks, but could not decide on which to take on and finish. Same for Super Metroid Romhacks. Man there are so many good ones.
- F-Zero Deluxe (SNES Romhack, 2024): F-Zero courses from a dead Nintendo satellite service restored using VHS and AI actually didn’t play this this week, but loved it so much and it was fun, especially with MSU1 soundtrack

So probably not the stuff you are into, given the titles and systems you mentioned. Switch is also installed, but because I have a PC to run Switch games much better, I actually end up never playing it on the Deck.
Of the games mentioned, the F-Zero one seems the most interesting. I’ve tried to get into it the unmodded version several times over the years, but it never stuck. The controls always just felt way too slippery.
I ended up trying out RetroDeck after reformatting my deck a few weeks back. Flatpak install was pretty seamless, and I liked being able to save all my ROMs to SD card by default instead of my limited 256 SSD.
I have some of the GCN and GBA games I’ve always loved in addition to stuff I never got around to playing, like Jet Set Radio and Star Fox 64.
Of all my “games” on my deck, RetroDeck/Emulation Station had the highest playtime before I formatted, at 100 hours.
I also have the 256gb Deck (LCD day one) and put all Roms on 512gb microSD card. :-) One positive thing about using the Steam version of RetroArch is to have builtin Cloud saves for every configuration and game saves, and playtimes. Also it does not clash with RetroDeck or Emudecks own shortcuts and settings in example. I’ve seen over and over reports of problems that can be traced back to that. On my Deck RetroArch has highest playtime too, right now at 180 hours. :-)
And the controls of F-Zero, it is definitely not easy and one need to get used to it. One tip I could give is, in the corners instead using break, I recommend to let go of acceleration very quickly, in a quick tapping manner until you get the curve. This gives you control and grip and reduced the speed. I actually improved playing like this and finished the cups, which I was not able to before.
One thing I enjoyed a lot (many hours, instead playing a game lol) is experimenting and creating custom controls, menus and functionality. I always wanted to share my RetroArch custom Steam controls (through Steam Input community share option), but that would require exact setup of some shortcuts.
Black Flag Resynced. Obligatory “fuck Ubisoft,” but I loved the original and I’ve been loving the remaster. And I’m pretty sure this is the first Ubisoft title I’ve bought since the original. It runs surprisingly well on the Deck if you limit it to 30FPS and put it on one of the handheld settings.
That is, I love it when I can play it. I’ve been traveling this weekend, and if I want to run the game I need to connect the Deck to my phone’s hotspot to start the game. It can run disconnected, just needs to be connected to start it. But fortunately the Deck suspends and wakes just fine while the game is already running, so I’ve just left it going.
(Obviously it looks much better if I play on my PC or stream it to the Deck from the PC, but I’ve been glad to be able to play it on the go with minimal fuss.)
I picked up Control - Ultimate Edition a few months ago and beat it.
After playing God of War (2018), some of Hogwarts Legacy, and way too much Destiny and Destiny 2, I am very much tired of the:
“Upgraded gear makes you stronger and there are multiple rarity tiers of gear” mechanic.
I’m debating between playing Mass Effect Legendary (played the Original many times) or starting up FFVII Remake again — I’m about 7 hours into that one.
1000xRESIST and Pathogenic
1000xRESIST was on a lot of underrated games lists last year when it came out, and I kept putting it off because the plot points I had heard about seemed very heavy, but it is a beautiful piece of art. It’s a very cinematic game with a lot to say about identity, family, and the pain we inflict upon ourselves. Saying anything about the story would probably ruin it, but it’s a walking sim with some light puzzle elements.
Pathogenic is a rougelite twinstick shooter where you play as an infection fighting through the human body and upgrading along the way by adding internal upgrades that power up external upgrades like tentacles that allow you to move or appendages that shoot/attack. It’s almost the complete opposite of 1000xRESIST. Basically no story and all gameplay.
These games both look great. Any other recommendations?
SWORN if you like Hades. It’s pretty transparent that they just said “What if Hades, but rip out any depth to the story, make it up to 4 player multiplayer, and change up the pantheon of gods” then made that, but it’s still fun to play.
Esoteric Ebb is a self-described Disco-like (referring to Disco Elysium) where you play as a cleric investigating a local tea shop that exploded. You have the typical RPG stats that you distribute points into at the beginning (so you can basically make whatever class you want despite your job being a cleric at the beginning), and as you go through the game, the stats are represented by different parts of your psyche that will comment on and influence your actions. The writing is genuinely hilarious and the sheer amount of content could keep you coming back for many playthroughs with very different experiences each time. I’ve never played a video game RPG that captures the experience of playing a TTRPG as well as this one does.
I hadn’t seen Mina the Hollower mentioned in this thread, and I really enjoyed that earlier this year too. It’s a more modern take on 2D Zelda game with more focus on skill difficulty (harder enemies and some brutal platforming) than puzzles. It has some great pixel art in the style of a Game Boy Color game and is packed full of secrets to discover. It’s got a really great soundtrack too!

Graphically it’s mildly disappointing. For example the Sistine Chapel looks really bad in game and it takes long for the textures to pop in.
It’s quite playable though, the framerate is decent and in most areas the delayed textures are not an issue.
It is quite a buggy game though, it has that typical Bethesda jank to it.
The game itself is a lot like the classic movies. They really nailed that part and that is well made.
Are you playing this on the Deck? It’s pretty impressive that it’s playable at all considering how terribly it ran at launch (well, wouldn’t run at all originally, but then ran terribly on Deck after getting some specific proton patches)
I would call it a good experience if you don’t mind the texture pop in. It has certainly made a 13h flight much more enjoyable.

I’ve found that, at any one time, I like having one that’s a real timesink kinda game, and 2-3 that are pick-up and play arcadey games
I’m in the middle of replaying Cyberpunk and finishing my fourth playthrough of Silksong. A friend also just got me neon white so I’ve been playing that too. Other than that still the occasional windblown run when I can convince my husband to play
