Satan also just translates as “The Accuser”. He’s just an angel whose job it is to make sure Jesus is really That Guy. Satan doesn’t really show up all that much or even exist in the way modern christians think he does. Don’t get me started on the whole “el” thing.

    Edit:

If you believe God created everything and evil exists you best believe God created that too

Eh. Yahweh used to be a storm deity part of a larger Pantheon, he was just the regional god of Palestine. Time passes, things get murked together and it all becomes confusing. Why would God need to fight Leviathan? Didnt he create it? Why is god picking losers like David to be his Profets, when they disappoint him time and again? Why is there evil in the world?
Because the Bible is a weird document. Go read beanytuesdays post about the different Devils. Or be a gnostic.

If I remember my catechismus this is more a case of being sent by god. Like he’s a tester of sort. Similar character to the “Satan” that god makes a wager with about Job. These two aren’t necessarily the same either, they’re just two creatures that have less faith in Gods creations than he does.

Edit: this “comic” (zine?)does a good job

Seriously go find the comic, it has good gags
