    I don’t know how an island nation has been completely dunked on in nearly every naval engagement in their history.

    IIRC, in Japanese martial history, they really only used ships as floating battlefields for infantry when various lords fought each other. Since their only strategy was board, the Korean turtle ships were designed as a hard counter to that

      Aka a strategy that went out of style a couple thousand years ago.

      They also did very poorly in ww2. Wildly betting on “if battleship good, giant battleship is best”.
